Lent 2012 ~ Reflection

On February 22nd the message to be heard around the world will be, “Repent and believe in the Gospel.” From the very youngest to the most senior person will be invited to receive ashes on their forehead in the form of a cross. Over and over again as each person presents themselves the Church will echo those words, “Repent and believe in the Gospel” – or – “Remember, oh man that you are dust and into dust you shall return.”

REPENT – Yes, change the direction you are looking for happiness. Believe in the Gospel. Open your ears, open your eyes, open your heart to the good news. – “God so loved the world that He sent His only Son,” Jesus did not see being God something to cling to – humbled Himself and became Man. By His cross we have been saved.

Oh, God my heart swells with gratitude for your boundless love! I have decided to follow Jesus no turning back, no turning back. This Lenten Season I will respond to your love with renewed fervor with prayer, fasting, and service of neighbor.

“When we handle the sick and the needy, we touch the suffering body of Christ. We need the eyes of deep faith to see Christ in the broken body and dirty clothes under which the most beautiful one among us hides.” Bl. Teresa of Calcutta

Contemplatives in Action

Anawim CommunityI was recently reflecting on the profound mystery of God’s love expressed for us through the incarnation – God becoming human in the person of Jesus.  I was drawn to how Mary’s “Yes” was needed for God’s gift of Jesus to become reality.  Just look at the impact on humanity of one person’s “Yes” to what God placed before her.  When we cooperate with God as Mary did and say “Yes” to what God places before us, our life and the lives of those around us can be transformed and God is experienced in a profound way.
